At the beginning of the 20th century, many very wealthy individuals began to have very large personal yachts built for their own personal pleasure. Not long after that, private luxury yacht charters started to pop up all over the world. The New York Yacht Club hosted many of the early sailing events at Newport, Rhode Island, during the Gilded Age.

A super-yacht , by definition, must be al least 148 feet long and usually has three decks that accommodate 12 people A super-yacht will have one or more luxury tenders for reaching shore and other equipment like a speed boats, jet skis, wind surfing boards, and scuba equipment. Most current charted luxury yachts have high definition flat screen TVs and satellite communication centers.

Luxury Yacht Charter – Mega-Yacht

These yachts are at least 213 feet in length and cost tens of millions of dollars to build. A yacht of this size usually has four decks above the water line and one or two below. It is also very likely to have a helicopter landing pad, VIP suites, indoor Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, beauty salon, massage room, medical center, cinema, library, lounge, secondary dining room, and private sitting room.

Luxury Yacht Charter – Giga-Yacht

These are yachts that are longer than 328 feet and usually have at least five decks above the water line and two below it. These giga-yachts have helicopter hangars, basketball courts, and indoor swimming pools.
